Moreland City Council is putting the call out to the local community to help celebrate those who have enriched our community and inspired their peers through outstanding service and commitment over the past 12 months.
Nominations are now open for the 2019 Moreland Awards, with 11 categories recognising services to arts and culture, sport, youth contribution, environmental sustainability achievements, reconciliation activities, community events, volunteerism, and more.
And in 2019, a new award will celebrate an individual, group, or business that has significantly contributed to disability access and inclusion in Moreland.
Mayor of Moreland Cr Natalie Abboud said Council has been working hard to help the community understand what opportunities may exist to make our city more accessible and inclusive for people living with disability.
"As a Council and as a community, we want people with disability, and their families and carers, to be able to access the places and services they want, to feel safe and part of the community and have the same opportunities to work, exercise, socialise and be creative as everyone else," said Cr Abboud
"It's important that we celebrate these wins in our community by recognising those in Moreland that have taken the initiative to make this a reality for people with disability."
Cr Abboud encouraged everyone in the Moreland community to think about those deserving of recognition and make a nomination.
"The Moreland Awards are a wonderful way to acknowledge the tireless dedication of those people and groups in our community who generously give their time and energy towards making Moreland a vibrant and inclusive place to live and work."
Nominations close on 6 September with the awards ceremony to be held in October.
