Blacktown City Council is celebrating the wide-ranging contributions its team and other councils make to communities with a bonus plant giveaway and video series as part of Local Government Week 2025.
Council is an award-winning provider of services to the biggest community in NSW and has received accolades for facilities such as Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub and its events and environmental services.
Blacktown City Mayor Brad Bunting said while Council provided and maintained popular places and events such as Nurragingy Reserve and the Blacktown City Festival, some services were not as well known.
"Council provides the pools, footpaths, playgrounds, libraries, childcare centres and more that many of us take for granted," Cr Bunting said.
"It is important to acknowledge there is a dedicated team of professionals who make sure these services are provided so we can love where we live."
Local government also plays a vital advocacy role on behalf of its communities.
"Council is the level of government closest to the people, and I have seen great progress in Blacktown City because of Councillors listening and lobbying on behalf of our community," Cr Bunting said.
As part of Local Government Week, residents can receive two free plants at Dawson Mall, Mount Druitt, on Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm.
Scores of people took plants during an earlier opportunity at Blacktown on Tuesday.
The giveaway is in addition to residents' regular allocation of plants.
Meanwhile, Council is publishing a video series on its social media channels showing the range of services the organisation provides to Blacktown City.
A Customer Experience Coordinator, Street Cleaning Operator and Tradesman are just some of those who outline the often unseen work they do in making community life better.
