Council staff get on with job at Cato Park during shutdown

A new paved pathway at Cato Park Stawell is looking fantastic, showing Council is still working for the community despite the COVID-19 shutdown.

Council's outdoor work crews have adapted well to social distancing and increased on-site hygiene protocols to continue important community work while staying safe from the Coronavirus Pandemic.

This project was a direct outcome of community input into the Stawell Parks Precinct Plan and includes about 90 metres of accessible path from Victoria Street connected to the main path around Cato Park Lake.

The path has a concrete edge with a seal of asphalt to ensure it is accessible for all people in the community and links in with existing infrastructure such as furniture and the barbecue shelter off Victoria Street.

The work was implemented by local contractors and the gardens were finished off by Council's own Parks & Gardens team.

Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Murray Emerson, said the improvements are in line with what the community have asked for.

"Council has listened to feedback and requests from the community during the development of the Parks Precinct Plan and have delivered the enhancements to Cato Park as set out in the plan."

"The improved path allows for greater accessibility to park amenities to all sections of the community."

"When we come out the other side of the Coronavirus shutdown, I expect that Cato Park will see a lot of use - and it'll be ready for it."
