Colac Otway Shire Council has endorsed simplifying management of the Pascoe Street Carpark in Apollo Bay.
The Pascoe Street Carpark is a Council-managed public parking area that also accommodates public amenities, including a public toilet and electric vehicle charging stations.
Following discussions with adjoining property owners, Council has agreed to amend its agreement that guides management of the site.
CEO Andrew Tenni said the change would provide greater clarity and flexibility for everyone.
"The Pascoe Street Carpark will remain a public car park, with Council continuing to maintain and manage the site for the benefit of residents, visitors and local businesses," he said.
"Importantly, landowners will continue to have access to adjoining private parking areas, while Council will have greater flexibility to manage the site and consider future opportunities that benefit the broader community."
Council is exploring opportunities to increase revenue for reinvestment by expanding EV charging facilities at the site.
At the same time, additional EV offerings would increase charging capacity in Apollo Bay, helping to meet growing demand from electric vehicle users and supporting the region's reputation as a welcoming destination for visitors travelling along the Great Ocean Road.
Mr Tenni said the proposal presented a practical opportunity to improve community infrastructure while generating a revenue stream to support ongoing site management.
"Expanding EV charging infrastructure in Apollo Bay would provide a valuable service for residents and visitors."
Council resolved that it would receive a final draft version of the negotiated car park agreement with adjoining landowners before any updated agreement is formally entered into.
