Whilst there are still communities isolated, dozens of roads underwater, and people impacted by the floods, Kempsey Shire Council has begun the first steps to recovery.

It may take weeks and months until the Kempsey Shire has completely recovered from the damage from these floods.

Council is working hard to allow individuals and businesses to get back to normal. There are a large number of tasks that Council's work teams are carrying out, such as clearing streets, assessing the damage to bridges and roads, clearing landslips, and repairing potholes.

As we shift from emergency to recovery, it is encouraging to see how resilient our community is in times of crisis. There have been numerous heartening stories about how families, friends, neighbours and strangers have been looking out for one another.

The Kempsey Shire has experienced many floods before, but due to the scale of this event, the impact of these floods has been larger than some people expected.

At times it can seem other communities are working faster, but comparisons to other areas are unhelpful and unproductive.

Our Shire has a unique set of challenges, and our experienced teams are working hard to meet the community's needs.

Council's Recovery Hub, located on Elbow St West Kempsey (next door to Service NSW) is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Council's Recovery Team are working with government agencies and charities to help people with a variety of issues arising from the droughts, pandemic and now the flood.

If you need assistance, you can contact them during office hours on 6566 3200.
