Kiama Municipal Council thanks Councillor Mike Cains for his service to the community following his decision to resign, effective immediately.

Cr Cains informed Mayor Cameron McDonald on Monday that he had made the decision for personal reasons.

A by-election will be held to replace the vacancy that has been created by Cr Cains' resignation.

Council remains focused on stability, recovery and delivery, and will keep the community informed as the process becomes clear.

Cr Cains has lived in the Kiama local government area since 2008 and was elected to Council in 2024 as an independent representative.

"We accept his resignation and thank him for his time and effort," Mayor McDonald said.

"Cr Cains has stood up for what he believes in, been a passionate advocate for the rejuvenation of Kiama Harbour and the local agricultural industry.

"His resignation will be ratified at our Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday night."
