The transformation of Council's waste management facilities is set to continue with the implementation of cashless facilities throughout the Region.
At the Water and Waste Committee, Council recommended the change to cashless facilities begin on 30 March 2020.
Toowoomba Regional Council Water and Waste portfolio leader Cr Bill Cahill said the change was a natural progression of Council making more modern waste facilities throughout the Region.
"We've seen a number of businesses move towards cashless facilities and by taking a similar path we'll be able to provide a more cost-effective service for our residents," Cr Cahill said.
"With the savings we could potentially reinvest these funds back in to the service.
"Not only is this a more cost-effective way of doing business but it also removes cash handling on site which will speed up the service for residents when using our facilities.
"While we understand some people prefer to use cash, our data indicates this change will only affect approximately 0.5% of transactions.
"The majority of cash transactions occur at the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility which is why we will continue to accept cash at this facility."
The committee recommendation will now be taken to the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 17 December 2019 for approval.
