Council To Review Flood Mapping Studies

Logan City Council will hold two Special Council Meetings in the coming weeks to consider flood mapping matters in the City of Logan.

At the first meeting on May 27, Council will consider the independent review of the Logan and Albert Rivers Flood Study.

The second meeting on June 4 will cover flood mapping and policy.

Mayor Jon Raven said feedback from residents has directly shaped Council's current focus, including the commissioning of the independent review, investigation of key issues raised by the community, and consideration of improvements to how flood information is presented.

"We appreciate the time people have taken to share their views with us," Mayor Raven said.

"The independent review will further inform Council as it continues reviewing matters raised by the community.

"I've been working closely with the Deputy Premier and Queensland Government to get a better outcome for the people of Logan."

Council has written to around 20,000 property owners with an update on what has occurred since they were contacted about flood mapping changes in August 2025 and what happens next.

The letters will be delivered by mid-May.

"We are still considering the formal submissions made for the draft Logan Plan," Mayor Raven said.

"This is a substantial body of work. It will take us time to carefully consider and respond to the issues raised through the Queensland statutory process."

All community members can continue to provide feedback on how flood risk information is displayed on the Logan Flood Portal until May 18 at haveyoursaylogan.com.au/projects/logan-flood-portal

Mayor Raven thanked the community for its patience and ongoing engagement with Council.

"The Flood Commission of Inquiry into the 2011 floods reshaped how Queensland manages flood risk," he said.

"As all Queensland councils move to this new risk‑based mapping, we've got a real chance to make it work better for our community.

"That's why taking the time to get this right is essential.

"We are listening carefully, reviewing the technical information, and working with the State before determining the next steps for Logan's future."

A dedicated flood maps information page, including updates, timelines, FAQs and background information is also available at: logan.qld.gov.au/Floodmaps.

Residents can subscribe to receive email updates as new information is added.

Both Special Council meetings are public meetings and will be livestreamed and available to watch online at youtube.com/logancitycouncil

Council will consider the outcomes of the independent review, community feedback and legislative requirements before determining next steps.
