Council Urges DTP to Boost Road, Rubbish Upkeep

Mitchell Shire is experiencing rapid population and traffic growth, which is placing increased pressure on the arterial road network.

We've heard from our community, and our own officer observations confirm growing concerns about the condition of arterial roads managed by the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP). Issues include potholes, degraded surfaces and delays in repair timelines.

Rubbish removal and site maintenance on these roads - including township entrances and roundabouts - are also the responsibility of DTP. A key area of concern is the roundabout at the intersection of the Northern Highway and Broadford-Kilmore Road, which serves as a gateway to Kilmore and the wider region. The presentation of such entry points reflects directly on township image, visitor perception and community pride.

The lack of timely intervention in rubbish removal and maintenance is having a significant impact locally, especially in growth areas like Mitchell Shire.

To address this, Councillors have endorsed two Notices of Motion to increase our advocacy with DTP and push for more timely and safe maintenance of these critical transport links.
