As the warmer weather approaches, Griffith City Council is reminding residents to maintain their properties to help reduce health and safety risks across the community.
Overgrown blocks and unhealthy yards can pose serious hazards and risks that have negative impacts on neighbourhood amenity, including:
- increased fire risk
- attracting vermin such as mice, snakes, spiders
- encourages illegal dumping
- harbourage of rubbish
Council encourages all property owners to take proactive steps:
- mow lawns and clear overgrown vegetation
- remove rubbish, debris and unwanted materials
Council strongly recommends that the owners of vacant land in particular, establish an agreement with a slashing or mowing contractor to maintain the land on a regular basis.
Council's Director of Sustainable Development, Joe Rizzo is asking everyone to play their role in keeping Griffith safe and looking its best.
"Regular maintenance of your property not only protects your home and neighbours, but also contributes to the overall wellbeing of our community," said Mr Rizzo.
