Hobsons Bay City Council has welcomed a commitment from the Victorian Liberal Party to invest $146 million to duplicate Point Cook Road between Central Avenue and Sneydes Road.

The duplication commitment was included in a $1.5 billion roads investment package for Melbourne's west announced by Liberal leader Matt Guy and local candidate for the state seat of Point Cook, Angela Newhouse.

Reducing congestion and improving safety on Point Cook Road was identified as one of Council's key transport advocacy priorities in the Advocacy Strategy 2021-25.

Mayor of Hobsons Bay, Cr Peter Hemphill, said the project had been badly needed for many years.

"For the past two decades, Council has been advocating for the duplication of Point Cook Road to relieve the pressure on residents living in the area," Cr Hemphill said.

"Congestion on this major road has been a nightmare for residents and it needs hundreds of millions of dollars to fix its problems.

"I am sure local residents would welcome the commitment from the Liberal Party to duplicate the road."
