Councillor Catch Up - Moruya Wrap Up

Councillors caught up with local residents outside Moruya Post Office on Friday 24 September 2025 to discuss a range of topics - from local infrastructure and environmental projects to waste management and accessibility to the Council Chamber.

Here is a wrap up of the issues raised by residents and the Council actions taken:

Long Beach steps

A resident sought advice about potential funding for the Long Beach steps. The Mayor was invited to attend the next Long Beach Community Association meeting to discuss the matter further.

Congo Road

Two sisters living on either side of Congo Road requested an update on the road's status. The Mayor advised that he anticipates a decision regarding the road's future to be reached this calendar year.

Southern Dam

A resident enquired about the proposed location of a pumping station for the new Southern Dam, suggesting locals can offer advice. The Mayor asked the resident to submit the question via email to receive a detailed, official response.

Moruya tip and waste collection

A resident raised the challenge of transporting her waste from Hawdons Road (where there is no domestic waste service) to Moruya Transfer Station. As well as the expense, the speed bumps on the way through the tip are difficult to navigate given her age and mobility.

Council's waste team responded by confirming that work to reduce the height of the speed humps was already scheduled for the weekend of 18–19 October 2025. This followed feedback from other community members. The resident will be informed about this work and given the option to call staff ahead of time and be met at the entrance gate to collect the resident's waste.

Chamber accessibility

A resident raised a concern about the lack of disabled seating in the Council Chamber, noting it makes civic engagement difficult. Council's Executive Services team followed up, explaining to the resident how they can access the Chamber.

Batemans Bay skate park bubbler

A Long Beach resident asked the Mayor to revisit a written request for a new bubbler for the Batemans Bay skatepark. Council's Water and Sewer team will investigate.

Animal welfare

A registered dog breeder raised concerns regarding the draft local orders policy and confusion over the jurisdictions of Council, the RSPCA, and the AWL in conducting inspections. Councillors Mick Johnson and Colleen Turner were able to provide explanations which abated the resident's concerns.

Next Councillor Catch Up will be held 10.30am-12.30pm, Wednesday 30 October 2025 at Batehaven, on the footpath near the bakehouse.
