Toowoomba Region Councillors and passionate cyclists Deputy Mayor Councillor Rebecca Vonhoff and Councillor Edwina Farquhar have thrown their support behind a recent collaboration between the Queensland Government and Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) aimed at encouraging more women to take up bike riding.
TRC's Women bike riding campaign, proudly supported by the Queensland Government, highlights the many physical, mental, and social benefits bike riding offers women across the Region.
Cr Vonhoff said she was thrilled to see a campaign that not only celebrates the benefits of bike riding but also showcases the Region's expansive network of bike paths, trails and cycleways.
"Cr Farquhar and I are both enthusiastic bike riders, and we have some of our country's best bike riders here, so it's fantastic to see a campaign that inspires women to explore our beautiful Region on two wheels," Cr Vonhoff said.
Cr Farquhar added that spring was the perfect time to launch the campaign.
"This season brings our parks and gardens to life. With the sun shining and the weather just right, the possibilities for bike riding feel endless. Now is the perfect time to get outdoors and embrace the adventures that cycling can offer," Cr Farquhar said.
But beyond the scenic rides, both Cr Vonhoff and Cr Farquhar agree the campaign's message runs deeper.
"This campaign is about more than just fitness or transport," Cr Vonhoff said.
"When women ride, they improve not only their own wellbeing but help foster a healthier, more connected community," Cr Farquhar added.
As the campaign enters its final weeks, TRC's Transport and Drainage Planning portfolio spokesperson Cr Trevor Manteufel encouraged the community to share their feedback.
"We're keen to understand how this campaign has been received by our community members," Cr Manteufel said.
"I encourage residents to visit Council's Have Your Say webpage and complete the short Women Bike Riding survey."
Residents can submit their feedback before the survey closes on Friday, 24 October 2025, by visiting: https://yoursay.tr.qld.gov.au/womenbikeriding
