Councillors formally endorse new cycling group

A 14-person panel has been endorsed by Councillors to take part in Mitchel Shire Council's first-ever Community Cycling Consultative Forums to understand what bike enthusiasts think of the cycling experience in the area.

Council wants to get a handle on how cycling can be boosted for both casual and seasoned riders throughout the community - whether people are riding on-road, off-ride or launching into jumps.

As Mitchell Shire continues its run as the fastest growing municipality in Victoria, Council is looking to future-proof the community by understanding what kinds of infrastructure is required for riding.

Council received more than 180 responses to a recently conducted survey - and registration to join the forum - with detailed feedback and results reported back to Councillors on Monday, 15 February.

Of the respondents, 76 per cent of people use their bikes for mainly exercise and recreational purposes while eight per cent ride their bike to work.

Forums will be conducted in the next few months, COVID-permitting.

The forums will bring together community panel members and Council to discuss on-road cycling, off-road cycling and why people jump on their bikes.
