Counterfeit money charges at Townsville

Officers from Townsville MOCS (Major and Organised Crime Squad) have charged a woman with multiple counterfeiting offences following an investigation into fake money being passed to a Townsville business.

Police will allege the woman used counterfeit money to purchase a crop top at a business on Bayswater Road, Currajong on September 9.

On September 14, police executed a search warrant at a Denham Street address.

Officers seized approximately $6,200 in counterfeit money in $100, $50 and $20 Australian banknotes, several printers and instruments and materials allegedly used in connection with making counterfeit money.

A 41-year-old Townsville woman has been charged with two counts of possessing counterfeit money and one count each of making counterfeit money, possessing paper for counterfeit money, possessing counterfeiting instruments, uttering counterfeit money and two counts of supplying dangerous drugs and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of a weapon, fraud, possessing anything used in the commission of a crime and receiving tainted property.

She appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court yesterday and was remanded in custody to re-appear on September 16.

Investigations are ongoing.

Police encourage local business owners who accept cash to be vigilant. If a staff member receives a counterfeit note, please ensure the note is handled as little as possible, note a description of the offender or obtain a copy of any CCTV footage of the offender, and contact police.
