Queensland to Modernise Access to Government Services

Minister for Customer Services and Open Data and Minister for Small and Family Business The Honourable Steve Minnikin
  • Service Queensland delivers a new front door so Queenslanders can better access the government services they need, when and where it suits them, whether it be in person, over-the-phone or online.
  • The rollout includes a new Service Queensland store in Brisbane City, a new customer contact centre, and the new Service Queensland app and website.
  • Under Labor, Queensland fell more than a decade behind other states that implemented similar reforms to deliver better access to important government services.
  • This is part of the Crisafulli Government's plan for customer service to stretch across every arm of government and deliver Australia's most customer service-focused government.

The Crisafulli Government has launched Service Queensland – a new, more connected way to access government services online, over the phone, and in-person - bringing the State into the modern-era after Labor ignored customer service and left Queenslanders accessing outdated systems and processes.

Service Queensland is part of the Crisafulli Government's plan to deliver better services through a stronger economy and brings a range of services together so Queenslanders can better access what they need, when and where it suits them.

From today, Queenslanders will start seeing Service Queensland appear across a range of digital and in person facilities, including:

  • a new Brisbane City Service Queensland Store;
  • a new service.qld.gov.au website;
  • the Service Queensland app, which includes the digital licence;
  • new Service Queensland call centre.

The Service Queensland store in Brisbane City - which has extended weekday hours and Saturday trading to promote greater flexibility for people - allows Queenslanders to be assisted with services currently offered by Transport and Main Roads, Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety, Department of Justice, Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages and others, all in the one place.

The launch of Service Queensland puts an end to a decade of decline where Labor ignored customer service and left Queenslanders accessing outdated systems and processes at multiple different locations.

The Service Queensland app will ensure customers and businesses can continue to store and access their digital licences and credentials in a secure and trusted platform, while also accessing a range of other new services.

Queenslanders want choice in how they access government services, which is why Service Queensland will always provide access to a real person, whether that's over the phone, through online chat or in person at a service centre.

Minister for Customer Services Steve Minnikin said Service Queensland was delivering easier access to government services for Queenslanders.

"The Crisafulli Government announced a plan for customer services to stretch across every arm of government and deliver Australia's most customer service-focused government, and that is what we are doing through Service Queensland," Minister Minnikin said.

"Service Queensland is creating a new front door to government, helping Queenslanders access the information and services they need more quickly and with less frustration.

"Whether you are renewing your rego, switching to a digital tradie licence, or getting a marriage certificate we are simplifying the process so you can get on with life.

"No matter how Queenslanders choose to engage, whether online, by phone or in person, it's all about choice. Service Queensland will provide a simple and connected pathway to government services.

"Service Queensland will make it easier for people to recognise, locate and access the services they need, improving the customer experience across government."

More than 200 Queensland Government services will be available through Service Queensland from today, with more services to be added in the coming weeks and months.
