Courage, Change, Impact - Strong messages at ATDC conference

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing

This year's Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Council of Tasmania (ATDC) conference, which I attended this morning, focused on 'Courage, Change, Impact'.

The conference theme was more important than ever, as we continue facing the ongoing impacts and challenges of COVID-19. The past year has highlighted the importance of working together for the benefit of those in need and adapting to change.

This year's conference also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the ATDC in Tasmania and I had the pleasure of presenting a number of awards to leaders in the sector who demonstrate ongoing commitment to help Tasmanians.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to continuing our support for these vital services.

Last year, we released the Reform Agenda for the Alcohol and Other Drugs Sector in Tasmania. This 10-year reform plan aims to ensure all Tasmanians can access appropriate, timely, effective and quality alcohol, tobacco and other drugs services, supports and treatments.

We have committed $4.9 million over two-years to commence its implementation. This funding builds on existing government investments into alcohol and other drug services, as well as supporting some new initiatives.

We are also investing $10 million in additional funding to support community sector organisations and programs.

I pay tribute to all the people who work on the ground in the sector and in particular how they were able to adapt to new ways of communicating and engaging with clients online over the past year.

I acknowledge the work of the ATDC in all of its advocacy and support of the sector, and support their vision for a Tasmania without alcohol, tobacco and other drugs related harm and discrimination.

The Tasmanian Government will continue to invest in alcohol, tobacco and other drugs services to ensure we achieve the right mix and level of services to meet the needs of our population.
