Indigo Shire will seek a new exhibition/experience consultancy to bring the much anticipated Beechworth Historic Courthouse – Kelly Trials Project to life.

In a joint statement with Council and the creative design agency contracted to curate, design, construct and install the exhibition, Arterial Design, announced it will no longer be delivering the project.

"Indigo Shire Council and Arterial Design reviewed the project's curatorial and creative direction and agreed there was a divergence of interpretative methodology and creative approach," the statement reads.

"Council thanks Arterial Design for its enthusiasm and efforts. Arterial Design look forward to seeing Council bring this exciting project to life".

Council CEO, Trevor Ierino confirmed that the project outcomes will be delivered and the exhibition will be completed within the original budget.

Indigo Shire and the Victorian Government have each contributed $500,000 towards the project.

Mr Ierino said when complete, the exhibition will be a word-class heritage tourism experience based on the trials associated with Ned Kelly, the Kelly family and their associates, along with other characters and stories of the Courthouse in its time as a significant facility in the North East.

"The next stage of further research and curatorial work will build on the rich input gathered from so many important community and expert stakeholders over the course of 2021."

"This is a significant investment in cultural heritage interpretation and tourism and is expected to see a massive increase in cultural heritage tourism to the region," he said.

Council will now refine the project brief and seek the necessary supporting professional expertise to deliver the project.
