Cowboys and Townsville Eats combine for season opener

Council is getting behind the North Queensland Cowboys this weekend, pairing a Townsville Eats event with the team's season opener this Saturday afternoon.

Townsville Eats: Cowboys v Raiders Edition will run in Flinders Street Central from 3pm-8pm this Saturday, while the Cowboys kick off their NRL campaign against the Raiders from 4.30pm at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Footy fans can enjoy an afternoon of great food, live music and roving entertainment before heading to the big game or they can check out Townsville Eats after what is hopefully a big Cowboys win.

The Cowboys fell just one game short of a grand final appearance last season and Mayor Jenny Hill said Townsville Eats: Cowboys v Raiders Edition was a perfect way to welcome the team back for 2023.

"The Cowboys did so well last year with their run to the NRL preliminary finals and we're delighted to have them back again this year and to be able to support their first home game with a Townsville Eats event," Cr Hill said.

"We have enjoyed huge success with our Townsville Eats events in recent years and what better way to enjoy our city centre before heading to our fantastic new stadium.

"This is also a fantastic event for our young people and families to enjoy and see what our city centre has to offer.

"The Cowboys do so much for our city with their stellar play on the field and dedicated work with youth through their community programs off the field."

Over the past 12 months Council has delivered over 60 inclusive events for community, including events like the seniors' lunches, Anzac Day, NAFA, Carols by Candlelight and Townsville Eats, while working to attract a range of additional events for Townsville residents.
