Craigieburn, Mickleham road closures

Vic Department of Transport

The intersection of Craigieburn and Mickleham roads will be closed to all traffic from 11pm on Sunday, 13 February until mid-April as crews work to build new lanes on Mickleham Road and prepare to replace the intersection's roundabout with traffic lights.

During works, Mickleham Road will be closed to through traffic between Mt Ridley Road and Destination Drive (local traffic only), and Craigieburn Road will be closed between Debonair Parade and Oaklands Road (local traffic only).

Detours will be available via Aitken Boulevard, Mt Ridley Road, Somerton Road and Oaklands Road, as well as Donnybrook Road and Hume Highway for oversized and over mass vehicles.

Speed reductions will be in place along Craigieburn Road during construction, including on all approaches to the Mickleham Road intersection, as well as where other works are taking place.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes and avoid the area if possible, with additional travel times of up to 20 minutes expected during morning and afternoon peak periods.

More than 28,000 vehicles use Craigieburn Road every day, including over 2,200 heavy vehicles. The Mickleham Road intersection is a critical connection for the northern suburbs.

As part of the Craigieburn Road Upgrade, crews will work around the clock at this intersection to remove the existing roundabout, remove and upgrade drainage, install underground equipment and connections for new traffic lights, build new lanes, install new road edges, and install new walking and cycling paths.
