Creating Jobs and Skilling Territorians: 2019 Aboriginal Workforce Grants Announced

The Territory Labor Government is supporting nearly 100 employmentopportunities for Aboriginal Territorians in the third round of AboriginalWorkforce Grants, announced today.

The 2019 grants continue to deliver on the Territory Labor Governmentselection promise to support the training and skilling of Aboriginal people forlong-term participation in the NT workforce.

In the third round, 13 businesses in Darwin, Katherine, East Arnhem andCentral Australia have received grants of up to $80,000 for projects that supportsustainable jobs or career advancement for Aboriginal people.

This adds to the 26 businesses supported in the 2017 and 2018 rounds,which have enabled 215 Aboriginal Territorians to find a new job or to have undertakentraining to progress their careers.

Territory employers from a diverse range of fields have taken up thegrants, including defence, tourism, tropical health and research and creativeindustries.

Grants have been largely for one-off projects that give Aboriginalpeople requisite training and skills to continue in their chosen fields.

Applications for the next round willopen on 1 July, 2019.

The Aboriginal Workforce Grants are part of the Territory LaborGovernments Skilling Territorians initiative, which helps employers andbusinesses train local people for local jobs.
