Creating Jobs and Supporting Senior Territorians: Alice Springs Seniors' Lifestyle Accommodation

An Expressions of Interest (EOI) seeking a private proponent to develop and operate a senior's lifestyle accommodation village in Alice Springs will open this week.

Lifestyle accommodation for seniors is an important part of the Territory Labor Government's plans to build population and help grow the economy. In the COVID-19 environment, this project will also create jobs and help Alice Springs in the recovery phase.

Retirement villages are for seniors that are capable of living independently. Villages offer independence and flexibility, residents can travel regularly and maintain an active and social lifestyle.

The Territory Government has identified a potential site for the development, 2.5 kilometres from the Alice Springs CBD and situated on the northern side of the spectacular MacDonnell Ranges in the premier residential area of Mount Johns. However, proponents will have the opportunity to identify other sites as part of the EOI process.

EOI applications for the Alice Springs Seniors Lifestyle Accommodation will open on Friday 24 April 2020 and close on 29 May 2020. However proponents can register their interest in the project from today at business.nt.gov.au/aliceseniors

As stated by Minister for Territory Families and Member for Braitling, Dale Wakefield:

"We value our senior Territorians and their vital role in our families and community, as well as their contribution to our economy.

"This is why the Territory Labor Government is supporting a private-led investment which puts our seniors first while also creating jobs and supporting local businesses."

"We have also delivered for senior Territorians the most generous concession scheme in the country, going beyond fulfilling our election promise by providing seniors with $500 every year that can be used towards the cost of travel, accommodation, fuel, electricity and water.

"Making sure our seniors have accommodation that suits their lifestyle is important and necessary."
