Creating Jobs and Supporting the Community - $4.2 million for Katherine

The Territory Labor Government is investing anadditional $14.4 million in improving Local Government sporting andentertainment facilities, and the town of Katherine is set to receive $4.2million of that funding.

The money will help create jobs, support local businessesand ensure vital sporting facilities continue to provide social, cultural andeconomic benefits to the community.

Theinvestment includes $2 million for the Katherine Show Grounds to upgrade the ovallighting, fencing and camping areas, and to extend and air-condition the TurfPavilion. It also includes shelters for grandstands, shading of the equestrianarea, camp draft facility upgrades, and road and entry design.

Theremaining $2.2 million will be spent on the Katherine Sports Grounds on additionalstorage and car parking, road upgrades, a club room, hot office facilities andan expansion of the existing Don Dale pavilion.

These facilities host popular events such ascommunity shows, concerts, rodeos and local sporting fixtures, so it is crucialthey are maintained and upgraded to provide a positive, quality experience forparticipants and attendees.

The upgrades will also provide opportunitiesfor local tradies, which means jobs for Territorians.
