Creating jobs: Garramilla Boulevard Opens

Construction of the Garramilla Boulevard project is progressing well, with the iconic third entry point to Darwins CBD opening this Saturday.

Stage one is now complete with landscaping, footpaths and street lighting installed.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael McCormack said the Australian Government has committed $29.5 million to Garramilla Boulevard and the Tiger Brennan Drive Stage 3 project.

Right around Australia, the Federal Coalition Government is investing in getting you home sooner and safer, no matter where you live.

Territory Labor Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, Eva Lawler said the construction of this multi-million dollar project has created more than 540 jobs and will create a vital third entry point for a revitalised CBD and new CDU campus.

I am pleased to open Garramilla Boulevard between Dinah Beach Road and McMinn Street which has been delivered ahead of schedule.

This tree-lined entry point will create a cool streetscape with much-needed pedestrian and cyclist linkages to the CBD and provide roadside amenities such as seating and an outdoor amphitheatre.

Darwin Lord Mayor, Kon Vatskalis said when complete this major project will provide an alternative access to the city and the new Charles Darwin University campus.

I am very impressed with the progress contractors are making on the construction of Garramilla Boulevard.

Senator Nigel Scullion said Garramilla Boulevard is vital to the future development of the Darwin CBD.

The Federal Coalition Government continues to do the heavy lifting to build the roads and infrastructure that Territorians deserve because we have carefully managed the Federal Budget.

This road project would not have been possible without the $29.5 million investment by the Federal Coalition Government which represents the vast majority of the total project cost.

The new Garramilla Boulevard will provide Darwin residents and visitors with an additional new and improved entry point to our wonderful city, making travel faster, safer and more convenient for all road users.

Works will now also commence on the duplication of Tiger Brennan Drive and continue to progress on Garramilla Boulevard from the McMinn Street intersection to the Cavenagh Street intersection.

During this time motorists who used Tiger Brennan Drive are advised to now use Garramilla Boulevard or the Stuart Highway to visit the Darwin CBD.

The Australian Government has committed $29.5 million to the Garramilla Boulevard and Tiger Brennan Drive Stage 3 project, with the Northern Territory Government committing $15 million and the City of Darwin committing a further $5 million.
