Creating Jobs: National Industry Event Comes to Darwin

As part of the push to encourage investment in the Territorys resources sector to create jobs, the Territory Labor Government is sponsoring the APGA (Australian Pipelines & Gas Association) Convention & Exhibition, which commences in Darwin this weekend.

The annual convention is one of the most significant events for the industry and brings together participants from all sectors of the pipeline and service industries.

Minister Ken Vowles will address the conference at the Darwin Convention Centre on Monday. It is only the third time the event has been held in Darwin in its 50-year history.

Darwins hosting of the APGA event is timely, following the release of the Territory Labor Governments Five Point NT Gas Strategy and the launch of the NT Gas Task Force at this weeks NT Resources Week.

As stated by Minister for Primary Industry and Resources, Ken Vowles:

The resources sector is a huge contributor to our economy and creates jobs all over the Territory.

The Territory Labor Government has been growing our resources sector to create more jobs for Territorians just like weve seen this year with the construction of Jemenas Northern Gas Pipeline and the Tanami Gas Pipeline.

Our Governments number one priority continues to be creating local jobs. Thats why we have delivered the Five Point NT Gas Strategy and brought back the NT Gas Task Force after it was cut by the former CLP Government.

Bringing APGA to Darwin gives Territory businesses another opportunity to network with major players in the pipelines sector, and to learn about current and future opportunities.

Following a hugely successful NT Resources Week where registrations for Mining the Territory were up 60 per cent APGA is yet another opportunity for Territory businesses to get involved in our growing resources sector.

APGA CEO, Steve Davies:

It is fantastic to be back in Darwin for APGA's Annual Convention and Exhibition. It is especially fitting to be here for our 50th anniversary.

The pipeline industry has a long history with the Territory, having built the pipelines that have underpinned gas supply and electricity generation here since the 1980s.

In 2018, the Northern Gas Pipeline has just been completed and is about to flow first gas to East Coast gas markets. Most importantly, the Territory presents so much opportunity for the future of the pipeline and gas industries.
