Criminal networks targeted during high-visibility police operation at Oxley 3 February

A man has been charged following a high-visibility police operation targeting outlaw motorcycle gang members in the state's north-east.

As part of ongoing targeting and disruption of criminal networks, detectives from Oxley Police District, with the assistance from the Criminal Groups Squad's Strike Force Raptor, served three Firearm Prohibition Orders (FPOs) at homes in Tamworth, Oxley Vale and Gunnedah, yesterday (Tuesday 2 February 2021).

During the operation, police seized ammunition, prohibited drugs, home-made weapons and cash.

A 38-year-old man was arrested at a unit at Robert Street, South Tamworth.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with deal with property proceeds of crime and five counts of possess prohibited drug.

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court on Monday 1 March 2021.

Oxley Police District's Detective Sergeant Matthew O'Hehir, said police will continue to disrupt criminal networks, and the unlawful possession of firearms.

"We ran a similar high-impact operation at Tamworth in September last year, with the assistance of Strike Force Raptor, and the community can rest assured we will continue to disrupt the activities of members and associates of outlaw motorcycle gangs," Det Sgt O'Hehir said.

"It's another step in our ongoing focus upon firearm-related crime and other organised criminal activity in the district."

Investigations are continuing.
