Critical incident declared after Yass crash

A critical incident investigation has been launched following the death of a man in the Southern Tablelands overnight.

Officers were patrolling the Yass CBD, when they attempted to stop a vehicle on Laidlaw Street about 11.45pm (Sunday 22 March 2020).

Police activated their lights; however, the vehicle failed to stop and was discovered a short distance away after it has left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

The driver, a man believed to be aged 34, died at the scene.

A critical incident team from Monaro Police District will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be subject to independent review.

All information will be provided to the Coroner.
