Critical incident investigation launched after car crashes at Narromine

A critical incident investigation has been launched after a man was injured in a crash west of Dubbo overnight.

Officers from Orana Mid Western Police District attempted to stop the driver of a Commodore sedan for a random breath test on the Mitchell Highway south of Narromine about 10.40pm (Sunday 29 November 2020).

When the driver of the sedan failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated but was terminated when officers lost sight of the vehicle.

Police continued along the highway and a few minutes later found the vehicle crashed and rolled in Webbs Reserve near High Park Road.

The driver – a 31-year-old man – sustained critical head injuries.

He was treated at the scene and has been airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital.

A critical incident team from Central North Police District will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.
