Critical incident investigation launched at Campbelltown

A critical incident investigation has been launched after a man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound following an incident at Campbelltown this afternoon.

Just before 2.45pm (Wednesday 15 May 2019), officers from the Police Transport Command were speaking with the man near Campbelltown Railway Station when an altercation occurred.

The man allegedly challenged officers with a knife on Hurley Street, outside the railway station.

Police deployed a taser, however he continued to threaten police, before being shot.

The man was taken to Liverpool Hospital suffering a single gunshot wound to his stomach area.

A crime scene has been established and police encourage members of the public to avoid the area as the scene is examined.

Police are not searching for anyone else in relation to the incident, and no police or other members of the public were injured.

A Critical Incident Investigation Team will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
