Critical incident investigation launched in Kingswood

A critical incident investigation has been launched after a man was shot by police at Nepean Hospital today, NSW Police say.

Just before 4pm (Thursday 4 October 2018), police from Nepean Police Area Command responded to reports of a man, armed with two knives, who was allegedly threatening security officers at the hospital on Derby Street, Kingswood.

The 54-year-old man allegedly attempted to stab an officer and was shot by responding police.

He was treated at the hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

There were no other reports of injuries from this incident.

A critical incident team comprised of officers from Ku-ring Gai Police Area Command will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the discharge of a police firearm.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.

No further details are available at this time; however; police are calling for any witnesses to come forward.
