A critical incident investigation is underway after a man was taken to a hospital in a critical condition in Sydney's west today.
About 8.30am today (Monday 5 January 2026), emergency services were called to a home on Nipper Street, Homebush, following reports of an alleged domestic violence incident.
On arrival, officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command gained entry to a unit block and arrested a 52-year-old man to prevent a breach of the peace. OC spray was deployed to effect the man's arrest.
A short time after police arrested the man, he suffered a medical episode and was immediately treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
A crime scene has been established and critical incident team from Campbelltown City Polic Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
