Crown Solicitor Laura Stein has been appointed to the Supreme Court, marking the next stage of a career in the profession that has so far spanned more than 30 years.
Attorney-General Vickie Chapman said Ms Stein has been a distinguished legal practitioner and will make an exceptional contribution to the judiciary.
"After starting her legal career as an Associate to the Honourable High Court Justice McHugh, Laura Stein has accumulated significant experience across both the private and public sectors," Attorney-General Vickie Chapman said.
"For the past 20 years she's been working within the Crown Solicitor's Office, rising through the ranks from Senior Solicitor in the Civil Litigation Section to the position of Crown Solicitor.
"She has overseen numerous high-profile and sensitive matters in her time with Crown and has also led a number of reforms aimed at strengthening both the role and performance of the CSO.
"Prior to that, she spent 10 years in private practice, working on many complex litigation cases.
"I have every confidence that Ms Stein will bring the thoughtful insight for which she is known to her time on the bench," she said.
Ms Stein will begin her new role in the Supreme Court on September 6.
Attorney-General Vickie Chapman said the recruitment process for a new Crown Solicitor would commence shortly, with Assistant Crown Solicitor Ingrid Norman acting in the position until a new appointment is made.
