Customers celebrate 'Love Your Hairdresser Month' as salons transform lockdown locals from shaggy to chic Australian Hairdressing Council aligns with American Express' Shop Small initiative to celebrate hairdressers and barbers as easing restrictions see salons re-open

SYDNEY [Australia], 1 November 2021 – With lockdown restrictions easing, the Australian Hairdressing Council today launches its feel-good campaign 'Love Your Hairdresser Month', encouraging customers Australia-wide to show their hairdressers and barbers appreciation and to celebrate the diverse role they play in our communities.

With salon doors forced to close for the majority of 2020-2021, the pandemic has demonstrated how hairdressers not only provide a physical service, but also importantly support people's emotional health and community connection.

Sandy Chong, CEO, Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) said, "A trip to the salon becomes an afternoon of respite for many people that helps to promote self-esteem and confidence. Hairdressers and barbers do more than just cut and colour hair, they nurture a sense of personal wellbeing."

Following the inaugural success of 2020's campaign, this year the Australian Hairdressing Council is thrilled to align with American Express' Shop Small initiative to bring 'Love Your Hairdresser Month' to life. Sandy said, "Many salons are run by small business owners. American Express' Shop Small initiative incentivises consumers to spend with local, small businesses – which is exactly what hairdressers and barbers need. Throughout November, 'Love Your Hairdresser Month' is celebrating the return of the hairdressing and barbering community, their contribution to wellbeing and value of small business."

Lisa Belcher, Vice President, Small and Medium Enterprises A/NZ, Global Merchant Services, American Express said, "We know that many small businesses need a bumper festive season this year to survive into 2022. Hairdressers and barbers need high spending, repeat customers more than ever before. Through the backing of American Express' marketing program, including initiatives like Shop Small, it was a natural fit to align with 'Love Your Hairdresser Month' as we help salons attract these types of customers."

'Love Your Hairdresser Month' will run from 1-30 November 2021 across Australia. The Australian Hairdressing Council encourages the community to spread the word and for clients show their favourite hairdressers and barbers just how much they appreciate them.

Positive affirmation supporting small businesses may include buying products, services and gift vouchers, through to giving reviews and spreading the word amongst family, friends and on social media. 'Love Your Hairdresser Month' shares joy with an industry that has been hit with significant COVID-19 challenges and is facing long days of re-bookings and appointments in the lead up to Christmas.
