Cybercrime Squad detectives have charged two men for allegedly using cryptocurrency to buy child abuse material online under Strike Force Angle.
Strike Force Angle is an ongoing investigation by State Crime Command's Cybercrime Squad into alleged offenders using cryptocurrency to access or distribute child abuse material online.
About 5.50am on Thursday 31 July 2025, strike force detectives executed a search warrant in Woy Woy.
During the search, police located and seized a number of electronic devices including a mobile phone, a tablet, and a portable USB hard drive.
A forensic triage of the electronics was conducted at the scene and hundreds of child abuse material images and videos were allegedly located across the devices.
In addition to the child abuse material, a number of bestiality images were also located on the mobile device and a small quantity of cannabis was seized.
A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Gosford Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of possess etc child abuse data-use carriage service, use carriage etc to access child abuse material, person possesses bestiality material and possess prohibited plant <=small quantity.
He was refused bail and appeared in Bail Division Court 6 on Friday 1 August 2025, where he was granted conditional bail to appear in Wyong Local Court on Tuesday 30 September 2025.
On Wednesday 14 May 2025, strike force detectives executed two search warrants near Tamworth in Bogabri and Calala.
During the warrants, police seized a PC and mobile phone, which were forensically examined and determined to have been accessing child abuse material.
It will be further alleged that international law enforcement provided evidence of a 21-year-old man making three cryptocurrency transactions on a child abuse material website.
About 9am on Wednesday 6 August 2025, strike force detectives attended Tamworth Police Station, where they arrested a 21-year-old man.
The man was charged with three counts of use carriage etc to access child abuse material and was granted conditional bail to appear in Tamworth Local Court on Monday 1 September 2025.
