A man has been charged with offensive behaviour after allegedly spitting at a person outside Parliament House yesterday.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command have been investigating a report that a cyclist approached a man standing in Macquarie Street about 3pm yesterday (Thursday 15 August 2019), and allegedly spat in his face, before riding away.

A witness alerted police and, following inquiries, a 26-year-old man from Annandale was arrested when he attended Day Street Police Station about 3.30pm today (Friday 16 August 2019).

He has now been charged with offensive behaviour and has been issued with a Court Attendance Notice (CAN) to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 18 September 2019.

Inquiries are continuing.
