Works to restore flood-damaged sporting fields are on track as Rockhampton Regional Council crews continue extensive repairs.

Council's Parks crews, along with specialist contractors, have been working since the floodwaters receded to clean and repair a total of 22 sporting fields at Cyril Connell Fields and Norbridge Park.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said that while crews had already completed a significant amount of work, there was still more ahead.

"While we only experienced a minor flood, these sporting fields were completely underwater and when waters receded, they were covered in mud, silt and debris," Cr Rutherford said.

"Crews have used machinery to remove dead grass and silt, and aeration works have been carried out to relieve soil compaction caused by being underwater and to allow air, water and nutrients to reach the roots.

"We're also waiting on soil test results from each of the fields to confirm whether any further treatments are required to make them safe for use."

Divisional Councillor Grant Mathers said it was hoped the fields would be ready for use again by April.

"We know clubs and the community are eager to get back onto these fields, but these works are essential to ensure they're in the best possible condition," Cr Mathers said.

"I want to thank the crews for their incredible work so far, and thank the community for their patience while these restoration works have been underway."
