Dangerous driving and burglary charges, Toowoomba area

Darling Downs police have arrested and charged two 18-year-olds after an alleged stolen 4WD crashed at Oakey this morning.

It will be alleged a 4WD stolen from a Raff Street, Toowoomba home in the early hours of this morning was involved in a petrol drive-off at a Warrego Highway, Charlton service station at around 1.55am.

Police conducted extensive patrols for the vehicle in the Charlton, Kingsthorpe and Oakey areas before locating it travelling westbound on 4AK Road towards Oakey.

A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed on 4AK Road at around 2.55am however the vehicle failed to stop, and a police pursuit commenced.

Police will further allege the stolen 4WD failed to negotiate a bend at the intersection with Hamlyn Road and collided with a house causing significant damage. The residents, two adults and two teenagers, asleep at the time, were not injured, with a teenage boy fortunate to escape injury after the vehicle collided with his bed.

The three occupants of the vehicle, two males and one female, fled on foot with police apprehending two 18-year-olds soon after.

An 18-year-old Chinchilla man was arrested and charged with eight offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, burglary and commit an indictable offence, stealing, receiving tainted property and contravening a domestic violence order. He was denied police bail and is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.

Police investigations are continuing.
