Dangerous driving and weapons offences in Petrie, QLD

Police have charged a 43-year-old Griffin man following an alleged dangerous driving incident in the Sunshine Coast and Pine Rivers areas this afternoon, Queensland Police say.

At about 1pm at Maroochydore, it is alleged the man was sighted in possession of a hand gun whilst driving a vehicle and at about 2.30pm driving in a dangerous manner in the Burpengary area.

It is further alleged the man later dumped the vehicle at a quarry in Petrie and decamped on foot, discarding two handguns in the bush and lighting a number of small fires as he ran.

Police arrested the man a short time later in addition to locating the two firearms.

The man is charged with one count each of common assault, going armed to cause fear, dangerous driving, fail to stop vehicle, wilful damage, unlawful possession of weapons, setting fire to plants and possessing dangerous goods in a vehicle.

He is due to appear in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court tomorrow.
