Dangerous driving charges at Gold Coast

Police have charged a man after he allegedly rammed a vehicle in Logan and drove a stolen truck to New South Wales and back to Palm Beach before been arrested.

It will be alleged at 10.45pm police observed a truck with stolen registration plates in Wyndham Circuit at Holmview. The truck drove off, hitting a parked Holden Barina and pushing it approximately two meters into a tree.

A short time later police observed the truck travelling south on the Pacific Motorway at Yatala and Polair began tracking the vehicle at Coomera.

A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed at the roadworks on the Pacific Motorway at Mudgeeraba. Police began to follow the truck with lights and sirens.

The truck continued to drive south with both front tyres flat. The truck drove into New South Wales where New South Wales police followed the vehicle from the Tugun Bypass Tunnel and it briefly entered Tweed Heads before travelling north on the Gold Coast Highway at Coolangatta.

It will be further alleged, just before midnight the truck stopped near Farrell Drive and the male driver and female passenger approached a Tarago which was stopped on the Highway due to the driving manner of the truck. The man threatened the driver with a nail gun however the driver drove off. The man returned to the truck and continued north, the woman was arrested by police at the scene.

A short time later the truck was travelling north in the southbound lanes of the Gold Coast Highway at Palm Beach. The driver stopped and approached the driver of a Mazda three demanding his car however the driver drove off. The man returned to the truck.

The truck continued north on the Gold Coast Highway however failed to negotiate a turn into Eighth Avenue at Palm beach and came to a stop. Police arrested the driver at 12.02am.

It will be further alleged the White Mitsubishi Fuso truck was stolen from a shopping centre on Cayuga Street at Nerang around 3.45pm on Tuesday, April 16.

A 36-year-old Elanora man has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle and attempted robbery and one count each of unlawful use of motor vehicle, drive while relevant drug is present in blood, disqualified driving, stealing, possession of tainted property and assault police. He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today, April 20.

A 19-year-old Pimpama woman is assisting police with inquiries.
