Dangerous Operation And UUMV Charges At Riverview

Police have charged a 20-year-old man after an alleged dangerous driving incident involving a stolen vehicle in Riverview yesterday, July 29.

It will be alleged, at 5.20pm, officers with the Ipswich Property Crime Team attended a Hansells Parade address in relation to investigations into a stolen silver Great Wall.

Officers sighted the alleged stolen vehicle behind closed gates at the property before the vehicle was driven through the gates, striking a police vehicle stopped outside the gates.

The police vehicle sustained significant damage, however, it was vacant at the time of the incident and no officers were physically injured.

The stolen vehicle allegedly continued on and with assistance from Polair, was tracked by police before a Tyre Deflation Device (TDD) was successfully deployed and the vehicle returned to Hansells Parade where it came to a stop.

The driver and sole occupant, a 20-year-old man, fled the scene on foot before he was arrested a short time later.

It will be alleged a police officer sustained an injury to the hand during the arrest and was transported to St Andrew's Ipswich Hospital for treatment.

The Great Wall was allegedly stolen from Fig Tree Pocket address on July 24.

A 20-year-old Hillcrest man has been charged with multiple offences including one count each of dangerous operation of vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, damaging emergency vehicle when operating motor vehicle, endangering police officer when driving a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and obstruct a police officer.

He is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court today, July 30.
