Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell and Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall were in Wallan on Thursday 9 April to acknowledge the completion of major upgrade works on Darraweit Road, which are now delivering safer and more reliable travel for the local community.
The $2.7 million upgrade between Acacia Way and Roulston Way has improved a key local connection, with works including full road reconstruction, new kerb and channel, and upgraded underground drainage to support long-term durability.
The project was funded by the Australian Government as part of its $11 million investment in the Macedon and Mitchell Shire Roads program, with a combined $5.5 million allocated to the Darraweit Road and Wellington Street upgrades. Mitchell Shire Council also contributed $200,000 towards the works.
Mayor Dougall said the completed project highlights the importance of partnership funding to deliver critical road upgrades in growing communities like Wallan.
"Darraweit Road is an important local connection and these works have significantly improved safety and driving conditions for everyone who uses it," he said.
"We thank the Australian Government and Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell for their support in delivering this project.
"Continued investment from all levels of government is essential to maintain and upgrade our road network as our communities grow and demand increases.
"As Wallan continues to grow, projects like this help ensure our road network keeps pace with increasing demand and supports the daily needs of residents."
