Darwin Luxury Hotel Hits another Milestone

Development of the high-end Darwin Westin Hotel has reached a major milestone with Darwin based M & J Builders being awarded the contract to deliver a high-end prototype hotel room.

Construction of the prototype room will commence shortly, providing an important step in the project's development. The purpose of the prototype is to test the design and set the quality benchmark of a Westin Hotel guest room for the whole project.

This $200 million private-sector investment will provide a significant boost to the tourism industry and help attract high-end investors wanting to do business in the Territory.

While the development of the hotel is a private enterprise project, the Territory Labor Government has committed $17 million towards public infrastructure including a sky walk to link the Waterfront to the CBD.

The project is expected to create up to 150 ongoing territory jobs and 500 local jobs during construction.

Landbridge – developers of the Hotel – has been working collaboratively with the Northern Territory Industry Capability Network to assess local capability and identify potential local contractors and suppliers.

Works on site continue to progress well with the construction of the sea wall and pedestrian footpath well underway.

The hotel is expected to open in 2022, with the prototype room anticipated to be completed in the middle of next year.
