Council is joining with various local agencies to celebrate International Day of People with Disability across the city on December 3.
Disability Advocacy NSW, Social Futures, Mission Australia, and the Broken Hill Aquatic Centre have lent their support to a range of events, including an All Abilities Inclusive Market where people living with disability showcase their talents and creations, and an All Abilities Colour Run where participants can walk, skip, run, wheel or hop around a track once or as many times as they like.
The Markets and colour run will begin at 10am in Sturt Park, followed by free entry to the pool for disabled persons and a support person from 1.30pm.
The United Nations has announced the theme for International Day of People with Disability as "Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress."
Council's Community Development Coordinator, Rachel Merton, said the theme was in line with Council's own Disability Inclusion Action Plan.
"The Mayor and Councillors are very passionate about disability inclusion and an event like this is a great way to allow people of all abilities in the community to come together," said Ms Merton.
"It's not strictly a day for people with a disability, we encourage everyone to come along and take part in the colour run and check out the markets."
