More than 250 rugby league players and thousands of fans are gearing up for the Deadly Cup Carnival on 3 July 2022 as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations, which will run from 3-10 July 2022.
The rugby league carnival will feature matches between the Indigenous All Stars and the NT All Stars, with 14 teams taking part across junior and senior grades at TRL Stadium. Players will sport jerseys designed by Larrakia artist Trent Lee.
The event has a strong focus on wellbeing, with health and community service providers on site to talk with spectators and players about health and wellbeing.
In addition to the rugby league matches and health and wellbeing expo, the 2022 Deadly Cup Carnival will feature a range of other activities including an opening ceremony, kids' activities, and cultural activities. They include dance performances, blachung (sambal) competition and kup murri (cooking in an underground oven) demonstration.
Hosted by Deadly Enterprises, an Indigenous-owned eye care and eyewear provider, last year's event saw more than 2,600 people pass through the gates. Organisers are expecting more this year.
The Deadly Cup Carnival is supported by the Northern Territory Government through the Northern Territory Major Events Company.
