Death in police custody at Sunshine

A man in police custody has died after he was found unresponsive at Sunshine police station yesterday evening.

The 43-year-old Sunshine man was taken into custody on Tuesday, 9 November and was remanded to appear in court today.

He was found unresponsive when police custody officers conducted routine checks about 11pm.

Paramedics were immediately called, and officers commenced CPR. Paramedics were unable to revive the man and he died a short time later.

Detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate the death, with oversight from Professional Standards Command.

This is standard protocol when a person has died in police custody.
