Death In Police Operations At Burnett Heads

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the death of a 59-year-old man following a police operation at Burnett Heads last night, 9 September.

At around 2:35pm, officers attended a vessel on the Burnett River near Marina Drive for a welfare check, before they engaged with the 59-year-old Burnett Heads man.

At around 4:15pm, the man stopped engaging with officers, before they boarded the vessel and located the man unresponsive.

Officers immediately provided first aid; however, the man was declared deceased at the scene.

The State Coroner has been advised, and the Ethical Standards Command is investigating.

The investigation is subject to independent oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
