The new $1 million Emu Creek Hall Road Bridge is now open following a complete makeover from an ageing, single-lane timber bridge to a wider, reinforced concrete bridge.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Emu Creek Hall Road Bridge transformation was another success story of the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government's $100 billion investment in transport infrastructure.
"Bridges are so important in connecting communities, carrying families on their way to school and work, and freight on its way to market," Mr McCormack said.
"Our Bridges Renewal Program is another initiative that's helping Australians arrive home to their loved ones sooner and safer, and it's available thanks to the Government's good economic management."
Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said replacing old bridges made good economic sense.
"Replacing bridges such as Emu Creek Hall Road Bridge delivers a reduction in maintenance costs, saving taxpayer dollars and reducing downtime for local businesses," Mr Littleproud said.
"The Federal Liberal and Nationals Government's $363,550 contribution to the project is part of our partnership with local governments to ensure our regions are better connected and able to reach their potential."
Toowoomba Deputy Mayor Carol Taylor said the project provided improved safety, better access for heavy vehicles and a more flood-resilient structure.
"The Emu Creek Hall Road Bridge improvements will improve stream flow, flood immunity and safety for all road users, ensuring improved access for the local community crossing Pierce Creek," Cr Taylor said.
"While the road was closed, Council took the opportunity to complete upgrading works on Emu Creek Hall Road approach, ensuring improved access for the local community."
The project was funded under Round Three of the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government's Bridges Renewal Program. The project consisted of replacing a single-lane timber bridge with a new and wider concrete bridge, increasing the load limit from 90 tonnes to a potential 160 tonnes.
Over the next few weeks, final clean-up and associated works will be undertaken. Traffic management will be in place for the safety of crews and motorists. Please drive to traffic conditions and temporary changes.
