Deer captured in CBD

A deer seen wandering through Sydney's CBD this morning has been tranquilised and taken under police escort to Taronga Zoo for assessment.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command began patrolling the CBD after a motorist reported seeing a deer on the Anzac Bridge's citybound off-ramp at 5.25am (Thursday 15 October 2020).

Attempts to catch the deer were unsuccessful and it was tracked through the city until it was corralled in the rail corridor between Cleveland Street and Central Station about 8.30am.

A vet from Taronga Zoo was able to tranquilise the deer before it was loaded by RSPCA officers the into a van and taken – under police escort – to Taronga Zoo for a veterinary assessment.

Sydney City Police thank Taronga Zoo, Sydney Trains and the community for their assistance in today's operation.
