Police and Roads and Maritime Services inspectors have conducted a heavy vehicle compliance audit at a waste management company involved in a fatal crash in Sydney’s west yesterday, NSW Police say.
Just after 5pm (Monday 20 August 2018), emergency services were called to Claremont Crescent, Windsor, after reports of a garbage truck had struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 74-year-old woman, died at the scene.
The truck driver, a 53-year-old man, was taken to Hawkesbury District Hospital for mandatory testing.
About 10.30am today (Tuesday 21 August 2018), officers from the Traffic Task Force attended a site at Wilberforce to conduct a compliance inspection.
Officers inspected six heavy vehicles and issued seven defect notices for a range of vehicle maintenance issues; including missing reflectors, defective glazing light transmittance, and damaged number plates.
Officers also conducted two engine control module downloads and identified one vehicle was not compliant; issuing the vehicle with a red label major grounded defect.
Two infringement notices were issued to the company for permit use of heavy vehicle contravenes standard, and permit heavy vehicle contravenes speed limiter standard.
Investigations into the crash continue.
