On 13 August 2025, the Chief of the Defence Force, Admiral David Johnston AC RAN, met the Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff Department, People's Liberation Army, General Liu Zhenli in Beijing.
Admiral Johnston and General Liu exchanged views on bilateral, global and regional security issues, as well as the need for military transparency and communication.

The meeting followed the 23rd Australia-China Strategic Dialogue in February 2025.
